Term 4 is well and truly flying ahead and it won’t be long until we are getting the tinsel out!
Next week we will welcome some of our 2026 prep students and their families, and share what a great community we have here at GWSS.
This week we celebrated our staff by acknowledging Staff Appreciation Day. This is a special occasion to honour the incredible work our staff do every day. At GWSS, we are privileged to have a team of passionate, dedicated staff who inspire, nurture and guide our students with care and commitment. Whether it’s through creative learning experiences, quiet encouragement, or tireless preparation, our staff make a lasting impact. Thank you to our families who joined us in showing appreciation—your kind words and gestures meant the world.
Also this week we recognised Day for Daniel, Australia’s largest child safety awareness event. Students wore free dress to honour Daniel Morcombe and participated in age-appropriate activities focused on personal safety. These included discussions around recognising unsafe situations, knowing how to react, and understanding the importance of reporting concerns to trusted adults. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home—together, we can empower our children to stay safe.
During the day, our front office team receive many emails and calls to pass on messages to students about their end of day routine and changes to plans. Please be mindful of this and only contact the office if the plans change due to an emergency.
Arranging afternoon routines in the morning before school and communicating these clearly to students will help free up the office team to effectively communicate the emergency changes. Thank you for your support with this.
Thank you for your ongoing connection and support for our school.
Have a great fortnight!
Yours in education,

Dr Karl's Q & A with Year 3
This week, Year 3 students were treated to a very personalised Q&A session with Dr Karl and his team of scientists to answer all of their questions.
From how stars are made, to how messages travel from our brain to body, to how to eliminate landfill - you name it, the students asked it!
Mrs Russell even had a question about eyesight!
We were very lucky to speak with Dr Karl!

Hello families from the music room.
This term your children are finishing off the units of music work and starting to learn their songs for our Carols out West concert on December 2.
Grade families 6s. It's your last term of primary school. I am very proud of all that you have achieved in music throughout your primary years. With that being said, it's time to CELEBRATE!!! It's time to practice that graduation dance - but I also need pictures of you as a preppy (4-5years old) for the slide show.
You can email me nthom273@eq.edu.au, or bring in a picture for me to copy. These are due by week 8.
